Tamara's Story

I truly believe that timing is everything. Eight years ago, I left my job and took a position as a temporary receptionist at Enterprise, and it was the best decision I ever made. When the receptionist decided not to return to work, I was hired full time. Through a series of promotions, I now serve as Human Resources Coordinator for my region.

When I began my career at Enterprise, I was surprised to hear that they promoted from within. In fact, I didn't even know what that meant. But having worked here now, it makes sense. We all work hard to succeed, and Enterprise rewards us with opportunities — the sky is the limit.

My most rewarding experience with Enterprise was when I was promoted into Human Resources. I had never intended to be here very long, but once I got my foot in the door, I jumped at the chance to stay.

I am in control of my career at Enterprise, but the support I get from management regarding my career is incredible. And, the ongoing training and professional development allow me to achieve my goals. I am currently working to obtain professional certification in Human Resources (PHR) within the next year. It's a two-way street — it's about what I can do for Enterprise and what Enterprise can do for me.

I come to work every day and give 110 percent, and I am always rewarded for my efforts. In fact, that is one of our company's founding values, "We work hard ... and we reward hard work." Enterprise is a fun, team-oriented environment. We also like to spend time together outside of work whether at company outings, picnics or celebrating someone's anniversary.

When I'm not working, my time is spent with my three children: Terrence, Tyree and Teyha. Each weekend, we plan a family outing such as bowling or going to see a movie, and we spend the whole day together. As a single parent, it's important for me to balance my personal and professional life, and Enterprise has always provided me the flexibility I need to achieve that balance. My managers and I maintain open lines of communication, and I come to them with solutions that will work for both sides when personal or family issues arise.

Opportunity is everywhere at Enterprise. There are so many different departments and avenues — there is something for everyone.
