Tina's Story

Tina McHale

I'm a Group Loss Control Manager, former Regional Liability Manager for the Enterprise Liability Claims Operation (ELCO) division in the Southern California and Nevada regions. I'm also very proud to be a member of the North America Diversity Team/Career and Family Focus Group.

In my 19 years with the company, I have been impressed by the fact that Enterprise is a growing company and that the employees are friendly, helpful, and very focused on providing quality services. In the beginning, I wasn't sure what I wanted for my career, but I soon realized that everyone was interested in my personal and professional development, particularly the managers, who were both inspiring and helpful in allowing me to pursue my goals.

Teamwork is ingrained in our division's culture. Claims are always different and no two days are the same, so there is always an opportunity to learn something new. We encourage employees to discuss their work through roundtables, which foster a fluid exchange of ideas. I've witnessed teamwork in action in other parts of the company as well. Recently I traveled to Atlanta for my brother's graduation from boot camp. Before catching the plane home, I returned my Enterprise rental car and, at that particular time of day, there were several customers waiting to catch the shuttle to the airport. Suddenly, a young man came running over and asked us to board the shuttle. He was an Enterprise employee who volunteered to drive us so that we wouldn't have to wait to get to the airport! He was so friendly and funny that we were all laughing and smiling by the time we arrived at the airport.

Enterprise is very supportive of its workforce and works hard to create an inclusive atmosphere. The company invites an exchange of ideas, and that carries down through the organization.

I love spending time with my retired horse when I'm not working. He calms me and brings me back down to the basics. Balancing work and personal time can be a challenge, but I've found that it's easier if you set priorities and plan. Free time should be scheduled because you never know when things are going to get hectic!

It's been inspiring to see the Enterprise founding values articulated — to see in print what we live our entire careers. My favorite is "We work hard, and we reward hard work" because I like to work hard — to dig in and look at the minutia and how it applies to the big picture. And because the recognition and reward is there, I've been able to secure my future by meeting my goals. The environment at Enterprise allows for creativity and it fosters an independence to run with ideas. It's like a greenhouse effect — the constant positive feedback helps each employee to blossom and grow. I've personally seen the rewards of hard work — I owe this company a big thanks for the support they have shown me during my career, and I'm also very proud of the brand because of the employees who stand behind it.
