Moon's Story
Moon Passino
Assistant Vice President, St. Louis, MOWhen my buddy and I graduated from college in 1992, we chose very different paths: he went to work for Enterprise and I toured for a few months with the Grateful Dead. When I returned home to upstate New York after the tour ended and started looking for a job, he encouraged me to apply at Enterprise.
"You'll work hard — really hard," he said. "But you'll never be stuck in an office, and you'll learn to run your own business." He told me that the company promotes based on performance and I could pretty much determine my own career path there, so I decided to go in for an interview. One week later I started my career as a Management Trainee.
I had a blast working in the branches — there really never was a dull moment. Each of us came from different backgrounds, but we all worked hard and had fun because of that environment. That teamwork and fun atmosphere exists in all the teams and departments I've worked with at Enterprise. Some of my best friends are people I've worked alongside over the course of my 14 years here.
Today as Assistant Vice President, former Corporate HR Manager, I serve as a liaison between local management teams, especially HR professionals, and our headquarters as they work to build their businesses. I like helping our local HR teams share ideas so they can be more successful in their operations. The great thing about Enterprise is that even though we have more than 65,000 employees, the company still maintains that small-company feel because each manager runs the branch like his or her own business, but can still rely on peers for ideas and support.
At Enterprise, I've always had the opportunity to stretch my abilities and talents. My managers consistently have encouraged me to stay enthusiastic and focus on what's made me successful. Whether I'm out visiting employees at the branches, fielding calls about day-to-day issues or serving on our diversity team, I love what I do. And I enjoy working for a company that makes good on its promises to reward hard work. It's allowed me to provide more for my family than I ever expected.
With three kids, my wife and I juggle a life at home that is as busy as it is at Enterprise. My daughter is 2 and my sons are 6 and 8 and play sports year round, so we are constantly on the run to their practices and games. I also compete as a runner and in triathlons. My wife does an amazing job organizing our family's schedule, and I live and die by my calendar. But I couldn't balance it all without the exceptional support I have received from my managers. They have shown that work/life balance at Enterprise is more than just a nice notion — it's an ideal people here truly work to respect.
