Laurent's Story
Laurent De Larrard
Area Manager, Dublin GroupI moved to Ireland from France after meeting my future wife while studying in Dublin for a year during university. While searching for a job after graduation, I found the Enterprise Management Trainee position advertised online. Although I had never heard of the company before, I came away from my interview excited to join a business that seemed to offer so much opportunity to its employees.
Over the course of my four years with Enterprise, it has lived up to that initial impression. Today I am an Area Manager overseeing the operations of six Dublin branches, and I constantly find myself learning new ways to improve our business and meet my personal career goals. I love working for a company where I can truly determine how far I take my career. I have had wonderful managers and mentors throughout my time at Enterprise who have helped me set clear objectives, and have offered suggestions whenever I faced challenges.
One of the key things they've taught me is my success depends on the success of my team. When times get tough, we all have a responsibility to step up and face the challenges. When times are great, we share our success together. And that is more likely to happen when we work as a team. As a manager, my job is to clarify our goals and listen to the ideas of my employees, providing advice and resources to guide them toward success. The "fun" happens when we achieve those goals and celebrate with team-building outings or nights out for top-performing employees.
Another thing that makes Enterprise unique is our set of values, which have never wavered for 50 years. My favorite — "Our doors are always open" — reinforces to me that Enterprise understands our success comes from the strong relationships we establish with customers and employees from all backgrounds. In Dublin, we have employees from France, India, Poland, Germany and some who have transferred from U.S. groups. Treating everyone with equal consideration has allowed us to establish close relationships between managers and employees. Our "doors open" policy means we listen to employee concerns and help them address challenges at work and as they adapt to Irish culture.
When I am not working, I like to play golf, travel home to France and take weekend getaways with my wife. We also love to experience Dublin and all it has to offer. Balancing my work with my personal life can be challenging at times, but with a little bit of advance planning, I have found I can meet my career goals while still taking time to recharge my batteries by spending time with loved ones.
