Kim's Story
Kim Sinclair
Human Resources Director, St. Louis, MOFifteen years ago, I was a communications major fresh out of college and needed a job. A friend recommended I apply to Enterprise because of its reputation as a fast growing, merit-based organization where a strong performance would earn me my next promotion. My first day on the job, I also realized it was a lot of fun.
Today, I am a HR Director, former Group HR Manager for South Florida, and my job is still fun and full of opportunities. Because I specialize in training, I get to work with employees at every level and from every division of the company, and that makes my job exciting. Enterprise employees are continually challenged to evolve into their next role and I have the privilege to help give them as many tools as possible to help them succeed. Being empowered to help our business by developing our people is the most rewarding thing about my job.
One of the great things about Enterprise is that it truly supports the success of its employees. One of the company’s Founding Values is “great things happen when we listen … to our customers and each other. Our culture not only allows new ideas and open discussion but encourages it. My co-workers and I have high expectations of each other and continue to raise the bar in what we can achieve. Still, with the diverse group we have here in South Florida — with people from all backgrounds — we recognize that we will not always approach things the same exact way. Because of that, we’ve learned when we respectfully listen to each other, we all can benefit.
That sense of teamwork has helped us face some really big challenges. When Hurricane Wilma hit South Florida, it ravaged our entire operating group. We had customers whose homes were devastated and whose cars were totally demolished. From an operating standpoint, it was an extremely challenging time. Our employees came together from all departments companywide to help get our local branches operational, while making sure we all had what we needed to care for our own families and homes. We worked in shifts to get the truck loads of cars brought in from all over the U.S. to our customers who had no transportation. As a result, our customers told us our friendly and professional people helped lift their spirits during trying times. Our Enterprise family became an even closer one, helping our customers and each other.
Put simply, my career at Enterprise allows me to make a great living doing what I love. And I feel fortunate to work in a company that gives me the tools I need to succeed both professionally and personally. I am able to meet my career goals because my company understands my need to have balance in my life. Without organization and flexibility, it’s tough to perform at work while meeting all the demands that come with being a committed wife and a mother of two preschoolers. Some days I need to spend more time at the office, and some days I need to spend more time at home. I am lucky to have partnered with a company that understands this.
