Henry's Story
Henry Hong
Regional Vice President, New York GroupMy career with Enterprise began in 1994 when my sister gave my resume to her friend at one of the company's New York airport branches. I was fresh out of the State University of New York at Albany with a degree in human biology and had changed my plans to go to medical school to pursue my interest in business. I joined Enterprise as a Management Trainee and, 12 years later, continue to build my career with the company.
Today, I am the Regional Vice President, former Regional Rental Manager of our New Jersey operations. What I find most rewarding about working for Enterprise is helping to build a culture where I can impact employees' lives. The company gives me the autonomy to develop my team and put myself and others into a position to be promoted to the next level. New employees join Enterprise for the opportunity to succeed, so seeing those promotions helps keep them motivated and striving to reach their goals.
My favorite Enterprise Founding Values is "Enterprise is a fun and friendly place—where teamwork rules." We build camaraderie in a competitive atmosphere and celebrate our successes with fun events and activities. In my region, we've planned outings to major and minor league baseball games, picnics at the track, volleyball games, bowling, etc. for our monthly club of top performers. We also find fun ways to give back to the community by teaming up for charity walk-a-thons and neighborhood events with our business partners.
I love working in this part of the country because I am close to the Jersey shore, Atlantic City, New York City, Philadelphia and the Pocono Mountains. I am an avid golfer and sports fan, so when I'm not working I try to see as many games and play as much golf as possible. I grew up on Long Island, so I go to about a dozen Yankee games and as many Islander games as possible each season. And every year, I take a trip to Dallas with friends to play golf and go see the Dallas Cowboys play. Balancing my work and personal life takes organization, but I make it a priority to schedule time to do the things I enjoy.
What makes me most proud to be an Enterprise employee is the way the company handles its success and rewards its employees. Enterprise Founder Jack Taylor spoke at a meeting for all rental managers and expressed how humbled and grateful he is for their hard work that makes the company successful. That level of appreciation from senior leadership, the great people I work with every day and a business model that rewards employees for exceeding goals makes this company a truly exceptional place to work.
