Emi's Story

Emi Kooyman
Controller, Atlanta GA

Twelve years ago I was fresh out of graduate school and the unemployment rate was high, so I paid a placement firm to help me find a job. I started with Enterprise soon thereafter as an entry level payables clerk in Sacramento, and I never imagined I would be the Controller of our operations in six states across the northwest. Initially, my career goal was to work for a stable company and excel at what I did. But as many times as I have elevated my career goals, Enterprise has answered with opportunities to fulfill my ambitions. To this day, Enterprise is still abundant with opportunities as I strive toward the next step in my career.

For me, there is nothing more exciting than seeing employees that we have hired, trained and developed advance in their careers. It's not every day you find a company that gives you the autonomy to run your own business, continues to challenge and develop your skills, and directly rewards you for the impact you've made.

No matter where you go in the country, the folks who work for Enterprise are competitive and fun-loving, and they give 100% no matter what capacity they work in. Early on in my Enterprise career, going to work meant being with friends, working hard and having a good time. As I moved up the ranks and my responsibilities grew, the environment remained fun, but building a solid operational foundation and developing a focused team became rewarding experiences as well.

It is easy to balance my work and personal lives when both provide me with such satisfaction and enjoyment. My husband, Mark, and I have two dogs, and we all enjoy the great outdoors. Snow skiing, hiking, and boating are some of our favorite things to do. I also find fulfillment in the challenges and personal interactions I share daily at my work, and in turn, my work has given me the resources to enjoy my personal time and indulge in the causes that are close to my heart.

Working at Enterprise has given me the confidence, sales skills, and business knowledge needed to step into community roles and positions I would have shied away from in the past. Three years ago, I was elected Board President of our local Humane Society, and I feel very privileged to give back in a way I never imagined.

My Enterprise career has been a true example of what the company means when they say "the opportunities are plentiful if you have the drive and desire to obtain them." I have met some amazing people along the way, all of whom have supported and challenged me to succeed. I am very proud to be included in this great group of people.
