Tony's Story
Tony Diaz
City Manager, Moline, ILEven as a child, I understood the meaning of working hard. I am the first generation of my family to be born in the United States. My family moved from Mexico to Iowa as migrant workers picking tomatoes and corn to support our family. My family and I worked hard to make ends meet, but we never gave up on our dreams.
Today, after seven years with Enterprise, I serve as City Manager for my home town of the Quad Cities. Sometimes I can't believe that I got to where I am today and that I have the opportunity to run my own business and provide a life for my wife and child that my parents could never afford to give me.
That is what is so amazing about Enterprise. It doesn't matter where you come from, what color you are, or what your background, with determination and hard work, anyone can succeed.
While this job has afforded me lots of opportunities, my greatest accomplishment is becoming a manager and developing my employees. I remember when I first became an Area Manager and the incredible feeling of attending a meeting and looking around the room at all of my Management Trainees who had become Branch Managers - it was a great feeling of accomplishment to know that I had helped to develop successful, driven employees.
I could not ask for a better work environment. With every success at Enterprise comes a new challenge. Every day is different, and I am learning something new all the time.
I also love being a part of my community. I like seeing my customers in the grocery store on the weekends and renting cars at one of my branches. Working in this community has also taught me, first hand, the importance of giving back. Growing up, I was involved in a boxing club but could never afford to buy shoes. One day, my coach walked in with a shiny new pair - I could hardly believe it. I figured he bought them with his own money. Several years later during a fundraising event for the United Way, I discovered that the United Way donates money to that same boxing club and kids were getting new boxing shoes like I did. It wasn't until then that I realized the enormous impact that giving back has on the community.
My free time is spent with my beautiful wife, Tracy, and my son, Chase. I also enjoy playing golf and spending time with my parents at our wonderful home.
Enterprise truly is "a fun and friendly place ... where team work rules." Everyone has the same goals and comes to work every day ready to conquer new challenges. Much of my success is due to the dedication and support of my colleagues, and I work hard each and every day to do the same for them.
